Clearly defined objectives provide everyone with a successful roadmap of what’s next. People are more effective if they have a directive they understand and see value in. Empowering them to show their ingenuity is also very important. I’m always surrounded by people who are smarter than I am. By holding people accountable to their personal and professional growth potential, you foster a win/win environment.

Building Legacy Through Empowerment

My legacy is built on cheering on those whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with and prospering. My greatest satisfaction is the “AHA” moments and paradigm shifts that I see those I’ve worked with experience. Ken Blanchard mentions in the book “Gung Ho” that the Gift of the Goose is really understanding that most just need to be supported and encouraged while learning. Great things come from those who are inspired.

As I am near the end of my career, I’ve learned that these words mean more to me than they ever did. Intentional, Consistent, Accountable, and Persistent. My greatest accomplishment will be to be remembered for being consistent in my actions/words, accountable to the parables I share, be present and intentional in all that I do, and have an irrational persistence to be better than I was yesterday. Never stop learning. Be the change you want to see in others. Show grace and empathy to all, as we all are fighting hidden battles.

In five decades of business, I’ve learned that the road to success is always under construction and that greatness isn’t a destination. It is the feeling you’ve made a positive difference in someone’s life, in hopes they will pay it forward. Never underestimate the power of meaningful connections to drive results. People want to feel valued and heard. Most listen to respond; you must listen to understand. Make Today and Everyday a Masterpiece!
